Celine's Reflection - Day 2

  • What did you do today?
Today, we did Project 10 which is constructing a "pop pop boat". It is an eyeopener as it uses a very simple science concepts. Our group split up the work and completed the boat quickly. Although our first few attempts did not go well, we did not give up and had the determination to make it move successfully. 
After lunch, we did our slides in preparation of the presentation later today. Each of us contribute to a few slides and it was done in a jiffy.  
  • What did you learn today?
I have learnt some presentation skills such as asking a hook question at the start of the presentation to get the audience attention and make my presentation less boring. Also, i've learnt to condense the things that i want to say in point form and put the rest of the details in the script.
  • How do you feel about today’s activities?
I feel that today's activities has helped me gain knowledge from different aspects and these are very useful as it can be applied through my journey in SST.

Day 2 Reflection--Rahman

Day 2

When we reach NTU, we made our way to the lab. We ate our breakfast which was given to us during assembly. We were suppose to eat our lunch before 9.20 a.m. We started our last project which was the Pop-Pop boat. We learned how to make the boiler and the base. In the end, our boat works. After that we had our lunch. My group and I came back early to start on our slides. We put in all the things that we learn during these sessions. After we made our slides, it was time to present. The presentation was a fruitful one has we got feedbacks from the professors on how we can improve our presentation.

1st day Reflection Rahman

1st Day 

We were given a briefing by Professor Sridhar. We learned the definition of science and technology and learn the scientific problem and engineering problem. Next, we were off to our project. My group were made to improve the AMS. We made it higher and add new features to it like cushioning the fall of the glass. After our break, we when to our own project which is the bicycle pedal generator. We learned how the DC generator works and how we can measure RPM and voltage by using a tachometer and multimeter respectively. We plotted a graph and found that the faster you pedal the higher the RPM and voltage.

Celine's Reflection - Day 1

  • What did you do today?
Today we improved on an automatic material sorter. We sorted out different types of materials such as metals, glass, aluminium cans and plastic. Using our innovative minds, we did several enhancements using limited resources to improve on the prototype. For example, we elevated the entire material sorter and also tried to make a conveyor belt for the rubbish to go in slowly, however, we did not succeed. 

  • What did you learn today?
Today i learnt what is a voltage regulator and i am also introduced to new apparatus such as as a tachometer which measures the revolutions per minute (rpm) using contact or photo. 
  • How do you feel about today’s activities?
Not only did i learnt new things, i've also make friends and learn to work with them. During this process, i have also gained lots of knowledge from them.

Abdul Rahman Reflection Day 0

I learned quite a bit about the bicycle generator today like how it generates power from the pedal and how it converts it to electrical energy that allows the battery to charge. I also get to know new people, my group members, who I haven't talked to.

  • What sounds interesting about this project?
When I heard of this project, I was interested to know more about it as it sounds like an engineering project. I can learn the process behind it and how it helps the battery to charge.
  • What do you think you can learn from this project? 
I think I can learn how each component works and how it affects the system. I also can learn the process which enables the battery to charge. I also can learn how to build it as I would be seeing videos about how they assemble it.
  • Any immediate questions regarding the project?
Can the bicycle be used as a normal bicycle and not stay at one spot?

Celine's Reflection - Day 0

  • What sounds interesting about this project?
The fact that by using bicycle, we are helping the environment at the same time. It is also a simple, low cost and low maintenance electricity generator. This mechanism can be added and used in innovative idea to change and improve lives in the third-world countries. 
  • What do you think you can learn from this project?
I think i can learn more about the different components of electronics which is greatly help me in my pursue of taking Fundamentals of Electronics as my Applied Subject choice.
  • Any immediate questions regarding the project?
Based on the research my group members and i have done, most of the battery generator is quite bulky. I am wondering if it is possible to make it more portable and we can generate electricity on the go. I think in that case i could benefits the users more.
