E-Shean's reflection

Day 0
Today, the group GoogleSite was updated with information on our team, our project and our project objectives. When I first started researching for information for this project, I was quite confused by the various different terms used. I also did not really understand the functions of some of the electrical components as I have not come across them before. I hope that at the end of this program, I will be able to clarify all my doubts and gain new knowledge.

  • What sounds interesting about this project?
I am interested to know how energy is converted so that pedalling can charge a battery.
  • What do you think you can learn from this project?
I would like to learn the basics of engineering from this project, and hopefully the knowledge gained will be able to help me in my CCA.
  • Any immediate questions regarding the project?
I currently do not have any questions.

Day 1
Today, I had the opportunity to enter the Innovation@MAE Laboratory at Nanyang Technological University. With my group, we tried to improve the Automatic Waste Sorting Machine so that it could function better. We also studied the components used in order to charge a battery with bicycle power. I learnt more about electrical circuits, especially how regulators and DC motors work. I also learnt how to work better in a team as teamwork was required while we were improving the Automatic Waste Sorting Machine. The projects have allowed me to understand that Engineering is complex and can have many solutions to one problem. Overall, I feel that this first day was eventful as the facilities left me in awe and the experience I had was very unique and engaging.
